Ten Things Nobody Admits But Everybody Thinks While Living Abroad

July 22, 2010

I had the good fortune to be asked by Expat Arrivals for a list of 10 things that nobody admits (well, except for me) but everybody thinks while living abroad.

The first three?

  • Your idea of achieving fluency in three months was woefully optimistic.
  • Though you invite friends and family to visit, you are surprisingly relieved when no one does.
  • You think about a particular food from your home country more than you think about your mom.

The rest can be found here.

Great points…too funny because my husband is already thinking about how much he is going to miss a local pizza joint and a nice juicy burger from a restaurant downtown. He is hoping he might be able to find the ingredients (or close to them) to try and make some of his favorite food while we are gone! Too funny how much food means to us. Great information, thanks for sharing
